Day 30 5/6/2010

I do not think I would let my students use wikipedia. They really could not use it during a research project. I think that wikipedia is not a very reliable source because of how people can change and add to. I would rather the students use sites that would have more reliable websites.

Day 29, May 4, 2010

Here is my finished Think Aloud. I evaluated the website http://www.thedogisland.com/rates.html

Day 28, April 29, 2010

I choose the Website Dog Island Free Forever. I learned that this site is about an island for dogs. It doesnt not look very reliable when looking at the site.

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Day 27 April 27, 2010

I learned the relibality of sites. And how to tell if they are bias or not. This meets 1B which states engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.

Monday, April 26, 2010

Day 26, April 22

From my peers I learned that smart boards can be used for a variety of subjects. The science presentation showed me a lot about disecting animals, which is great for science classes.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Day 25 April 20, 2010

I think that smart boards are a good investment for teachers. This technology would help to engage students in lessons. Students would want to learn and be attentive when using this type of technology.

Monday, April 19, 2010

Day 24. April 14, 2010

Using smart boards helps students meet INSTE Net Standard 3a. This states demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations.

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Day 23, April 13

A peice of evidence that helps prove Smart Boards are helpful to students is that they appeal to both Intrinsically motivated students and Extrinsically motivated students. For intrinsically motivated students volunteer to demonstrate knowledge on the interactive whiteboard in front of their peers as a means of showcasing individual achievement. For extrinsically motivated students are enticed by the wow factor of the technology and can become motivated learners as a result of the enjoyment they experience from using the product. This makes smart boards a good investment because then students want to come to school and motivates them.

Day 22 4/08/10

Today in class we continued to work on our WebQuests. As students complete webquests they develop concepts that might be boring if taught in lecture form. Students are given a chance to express themselves in creative ways and also express themselves orally because they have to sometimes explain what they create. This meets the 21st century skills of creativty and innovation skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills, and communication and collabration skills. These skills are met because students create things, explain them and think through what they learned to create their projects.

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Day 21 April 6th

Today in class we started working on a WebQuest. Using a webquest helps a teacher to provide students with multiple was of assessing students. A webquest also helps to engage students and make them want to be more involved in wanting to learn.
This meets INSTE NET standard 2D which states provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching.

Monday, April 5, 2010

Day 20 4/1/10

Color Crazy

This WebQuest is about animals using their color in surviving in the wild. I would not change very much. I dont think that I would have the students find a coloring page to color an animal. There is already a step that has the students create an animal and use colors to make it camouflage. I would also use different colors for text.

The teacher used the following standards and skills:

SKCS1. Students will be aware of the importance of curiosity, honesty, openness, and skepticism in science and will exhibit these traits in their own efforts to understand how the world works.
SKCS5. Students will communicate scientific ideas and activities clearly.
a. Describe and compare things in terms of number, shape, texture, size, weight, color, and motion.
b. Begin to draw pictures that portray features of the thing being described.
SKL1. Students will sort living organisms and non-living materials into groups by observable physical attributes.

b. Group animals according to their observable features such as appearance, size, motion, where it lives, etc.

SKL2. Students will compare the similarities and differences in groups of organisms.

a. Explain the similarities and differences in animals. (color, size, appearance, etc.)

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Day 19 3/30/10

Today in class we looked at the WebQuest website. We divided into groups and each of the members had a role. I was the Altitudinist. This role was described as Higher level thinking is everything to you. There's too much emphasis on factual recall in schools today. The only justification for bringing technology into schools is if it opens up the possibility that students will have to analyze information, synthesize multiple perspectives, and take a stance on the merits of something. You also value sites that allow for some creative expression on the part of the learner. I thoought that the WebQuest about making Ice Cream was the best. This one let students create a new flavor of ice cream. They also created a label for their ice cream and a poster describing their ice cream. This was done in groups. Also, the class got to make ice cream.

We all Scream for Ice Cream

This meets INSTE NETS standartd 3b. which states locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media.

This is met because the students can use different types of technology and media to learn about different things.

Monday, March 29, 2010

Day 18 3/25/10

Making a digital students helps students meet the ISTE standards by meeting Standard 1B. This standard states "create original works as a means of personal or group expression." Students do this by first creating a story and then putting pictures, and other things into one finished product.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Day 17 March 23, 2010

Today in Class we joined Bruceton's five. In this site we uploaded our magazine cover. Also, we created a minibiography. This a good way fro students communicate about themselves to others. I feel that it helps students develop 21st Century Skills standard for Information, communication, and Technology because it helps them interact with each other and the teacher. Students enjoy using the computer so they would be interested in sharing things to others by using one. I think that the Ning site is interesting.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Day 16 3/11/10

In class today we made a magazine cover. We made the title for Teacher of the year. We put different aspects of our teaching philosophy as headlines. This activity met the 21st century skills of Media Literacy by having students understand and utilize the most appropriate media creation tools, characteristics and conventions.

Day 15 3/9/10

Today in class we viewed and described two differnt magazine covers and talked about how it made us feel to look at them. Both of the magazines had a picture of Arnold Swartzeneggar on the front cover. The first was a muscle magazine and the second was showing him in a suit as the govenor of California. You could tell that the magiznes were portraying two different views of him. By doing this activity, student are developing 21st Century skills for Media Literacy. This activity helped students Examine how individuals interpret messages differently, how values and points of view are included or excluded, and how media can influence beliefs and behaviors.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Day 14 3/4/10

Creating a Woordle helps meet learning and innovation by encouraging students to think of certain topics and pick out important things about that topic. They can also communicate this to other students clearly with the picutre the woordle creates.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Day 13 3/2/10

Today in class we bookmarked websites through black board. This helps us organize sites that we want to use and keeps them in one place. This met the standard of applying technology effectively. This helps students to be able to research, communicate and keep track of their information.

Saturday, February 27, 2010

Day 12 2/25/10

In class we made a hypermedia quiz using powerpoint. In this quiz we picked a question we wanted to ask and made 3 slides. On one slide we had sorry try again, on another we had the quiz question and on the last one we had correct. We also added animation and sounds to the slides. Tuesday we are going to embed the quiz in our blogs. This met the life and career skill of working independently. If we needed help the teacher would help but mostly this was independent work.

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Day 11 Feb 23

Today we commented on a story written by students from another class. They started the story and then we commented to their story. We did this through bloggmeister. This met the standard of being flexible. This was met by them reading comments from several students and deciding on which comment they wanted to use in their story. Cooperative story writing met the learning and innovation skill of working creativetly with others. The student in the other class had to be open to the suggestions given by students in our class.

Monday, February 22, 2010

Final Photo Story.

I could not figure out how to embed a version of the song from you tube into the photo story. That is why the lyrics are in the video.

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Day 9 Feb 16

Today we started working on our digital story. This meets standard 1c. This standard states "promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes." THis was met by letting the students use quotes and pictures that they want. Also, we found out that we had to post our video to YouTube.

Becoming a teacher video/ Day 10 Feb 18

Today in class we finished our rough draft of our video story. This meets standard 1a. This standard says "promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness." This was met by the students being able to do what they wanted for the project.

Saturday, February 13, 2010

Class 8 Feb. 11

Outside of school my aunt taught my sister and I how to make Friendship Bracelets. She taught us different patterns to make. We learned a V pattern, and diamonds. We met standard 1A. This standard says, "promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness." This was met because we learned to be creative with the colors and patterns.

Class 7 Feb. 9

In high school I created a Powerpoint Presentation with another student about one of the poets or authors we were studying in class. This met standard 3C. This standard says "communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats." This met the standard because we communicated information to the students in the class and the teacher.

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Class 6 Feb. 4 2010

Today in class we used a conferencing application to talk to 5th graders in Oakland, CA. These fifth graders asked questions about autobiographies. I had the question about putting opinions in an autobiography. I answered that since the auto biography is mostly about you so you could put some opinions but moslty not. This task met INSTE Standard 3c. This standard states "communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats." This we met because we answered questions the students asked through the Skype. This is communicating with peers. In my classroom I would talk to a teacher from another school in the county that teaches a higher grade than me. I would think of some sort of project that the older kids could help the younger ones with like answering questions. Then with that teacher I would talk to them about connecting to Skype and then the children could ask the questions to the older students.

Survey results/ Class 5 February 3, 2010

Today we used Google Docs to create a form and to create graphs. In the form we got to use any questions that we wanted to. We then went to a website that helps to create graphs. We used the results from our form in our graphs. This meets INSTE Standards 3a-c. Standard 3a states "demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations." This Standard is met because the students have to be familiar with technology before they can use these tools. Students know a good bit about technology already so it wouldn't be so hard for them to apply what they already know to this activity. Standard 3b states "collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation." This Standard is met by having peers, parents and other members of the community participate in answering the students quesitons. The students would be supported by the answers they get from others to use in their graph. Standard 3c states "communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats." This standard is met by the student making the graph and publishing it to their blogs. By posting it they can show others the results of their form. This allows others to see the big picture of all the answers. In my classroom I would use this same sort of activity. I would have the students ask questions that have answer choices, because it would be easier for them to see the results. They would be able to see how many people choose a certain thing. I liked dividing the class in half so that there weren't so many results that they had to keep track of. After doing this in class, I would have the students make comments on another students blog. The comment could be a suggestion on if the person should have chosen another type of graph.

My Form

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Day 4- 1/28/10

Today in class we joined a Facebook group that has to do with Web 2.0. This follows the INSTE standard 1C. This standard states "promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes." This standard is met by being able to watch a video or reading an article and being able to comment on it easily. In my classroom I might have each student create a Facebook account and join a group like this. I would give them different things they could comment about. I think it is a good idea to invite other teachers and parents because then they could also see some things that are going on in their childs classroom or other classrooms in the school.

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Class 3 1/26/10

In this class we joined "Classroom 2.0." By joining this site we met standard 5A. This standard states "participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning." This would be met because as a teacher you could get a bunch of creative ways of teaching different subjects. This would help the teacher appeal to different students in different ways. I would use this site a lot in my classroom. I would use it to help get different ideas of teaching different subjects.

Class 2 1/21/10

During this class we created a resume on Google Docs. This follows the ISTE Standard 3C. This standard states "communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats." Doing the resume helped meet the standard in that when we were finished we communicated things that we have done to other students in the class and the teacher. I would use this in my classroom by having each student make a resume after going over things that could go into it. Then after it was posted, I would have each student make a comment on others blogs.

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Day One 1/19/10

Today we setup a blog. This meets standard 3B of the ISTE Standards. This standard satates; "collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation." Keeping this blog will help us meet this standard becase as a class we will be able to be creative with our blogs and we will be using digital tools through out this class. Also, to meet this standard we used text messaging and a woordle which was another digital technology tool. Having the students text responses for a woordle would help the teacher and students see what they know about a subject they could be unfamiliar with. I would use the blog in my classroom to help students have a background of using this resource. With the blog they would write different assignments in this blog.
